BACOLOD CITY -- A self-confessed finance and logistic officer of the “Sangay sa Partido sa Platoon” of the Kilusang Larangan South West, gave himself up to the 302nd Infantry Brigade, and surrendered an M-16 assault rifle with several magazines of ammunition and explosives, Lt. Col. Rodrigo Sosmena, Task Group South West commander, said yesterday.

Abu Sayyaf core member arrested in Basilan checkpoint Print

BASILAN, Philippines -- A core member of the Abu Sayyaf group, who was involved in the 2001 kidnapping incident in Dos Palmas Beach Resort, was arrested Friday morning at a joint military checkpoint in Lamitan City, this province.

The 1st Marine Brigade reported in a press statement that Ustadz Abubakar Muhaimen was arrested, as he passed through a military checkpoint in Barangay Bato. Muhaimen, who is also known as Muhaimen Latip and as Abu Muhaimen, was onboard a Honda Wave motorcycle bearing plate number JI 9764.

The press statement further said that Muhaimen has a standing warrant of arrest with Criminal Case No. 125323-II to 125342-II issued by the Regional Trial Court of the National Capital Judicial Regional Branch 69, Pasig City, for his involvement in kidnapping and serious illegal detention with ransom in the renowned Dos Palmas Beach Resort kidnapping incident.

The subject is now under the custody of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in Zamboanga City.

The Commander of the 1st Marine Brigade, Brigadier General Eugenio N Clemen, congratulated the personnel of MBLT-1, 32nd IB, PA and CIDG9 for the latest crackdown against the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group. Despite the time lapsed, he said, the long arms of the law have finally caught up with the terrorist.
