Said rebel brought with him one M 16 rifle with serial number RP 167104 with ten short and one long magazines270 rounds M 16 cartridge and one hand grenade. Rico acknowledged one soldier named Cpl Joey Pacaway who was instrumental in the surrender of Abalos. In a related development, 8th ID Commanding General Arthur Tabaquero admitted that they felt short of the mandate by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, that of ending up insurgency by the end of this year. However, the general said there were several intervening factors that resulted to this like the pull-out of some three battalions whose presence could have made a difference. The general is confident though that the higher ups will take cognizance of some gains that the military has achieved despite the odds. -- PIA |
