BACOLOD CITY -- A self-confessed finance and logistic officer of the “Sangay sa Partido sa Platoon” of the Kilusang Larangan South West, gave himself up to the 302nd Infantry Brigade, and surrendered an M-16 assault rifle with several magazines of ammunition and explosives, Lt. Col. Rodrigo Sosmena, Task Group South West commander, said yesterday.

Forty-three (43) Red leaders arrested in Morong, Rizal last February 06 were also caught in possession of 3 hand grenades, 1 canister of Improvised landmine, 5 IEDs, 37 pieces of explosive sticks and around 2 kilos of Ammonium Nitrate. All (43) claimed to have been subjected to undue arrest and detention as they continue to deny their connection with the CPP-NPA.

KIMAY: Another Victim of NPA deception Print

This much was proven by the death of a young beauteous 21 year old student from Mindanao State University (MSU) called Kemberly Jul Luna or Kimay to her closest friends on that fateful day of December 15, 2009 in Barangay Concepcion in Valencia City, Bukidnon. No one apparently forewarned her of such danger when she was enticed to turn her back on her family and her future by going AWOL from her classes and thereafter joined the local New People’s Army (NPA) in Bukidnon. Just like any idealistic youngster, Kimay was lured by the rebels to supposedly serve the poor but failed to tell her that she would have to yield a gun and clash with much battle-experienced soldiers.

From P20,000 to P500,000: those are the going rates this year, according to military officials, if candidates want freedom from harassment by communist rebels during the campaign period. The “permit-to-campaign fee” collected by the New People’s Army is not new; the rebels have extorted protection money from candidates in previous elections, as they have extorted “revolutionary taxes” from even micro entrepreneurs across the country.

 If we were to believe the news, a number of wanted suspects involved in the Maguindanao massacre had sought refuge in the Moro Islamic Liberation Front camp. These killing machines are surely a big asset for renegade MILF forces but assuming that this is true, the separatist front is virtually cuddling and will find themselves riding the back of the tiger.

The Philippine Left has its own idolatry and sacred doctrines. One faction has become the “orthodox” church and dubbed “re-affirmist” in reconfirming its obedience to the Lord Jose Ma. Sison. Of course, central to its doctrine is the “People’s War” with its sub-verses such as “surrounding the cities from the countryside,” among others. Despite 50 years of the failure of these idols and doctrines, and thousands of lives of the youngest, best and brightest, they haven’t updated to the new realities and the lessons of decades.
